|

Hello,
I am new here as I am currently looking at purchasing a stock photo software/web template. I have looked around but cannot find an answer, please excuse me if this has been covered.
Pixera is in my list of the top 3 finalist for my selection.
Am I the only one that thinks that the link to purchase a file is fairly well hiden?
I've looked at a couple of portfolios and the only way to get to the purchase is via a link in the middle of the box. The fist time I went on a site, I almost gave up because I couldn't find where to buy.
Is this a customization or is this the way it is?
I assumed that since the purpose of this site is to sell stock photography, it would be a main feature of the site.
If anyone has a different method to purchase files, would you mind posting a link to your site?
Thanks

Hie Bernie,
not sure, if I understand you correctly.
http://www.pixaria.com/buy
(the red button obove this, right)
This is the link to buy Pixaria and there your must simply press the bottom "I accept the licence term"... _________________ Markus - from Switzerland |

Thanks for the reply, but not exactly matching my question.
It's not for the buy option of the Pixaria software.
What I did is that went and visited some of the featured sites online in addition to some of the links to sites in this forum. I wanted to see how easy it was for someone to purchase a file from the Pixaria software.
On all sites that I visited, while I was viewing a photo for sale, finding where to click to purchase that stock photo was not obvious. I found it by taking all my time reading the entire page and found a link in the middle of a box.
I would have thought that the purchase option would be more prominent. Anyone have an example of something more than a link with text?

Sorry, I am not native English, obviously.
I hope, I understand you now.
As far as I know, on a lot of sites, if this is Pixaria, Coppermine or something else, usually you will find firs the image or file, what you are looking for.
Then, if found, in most cases, under such an thumb, or somethimes you have first to click on the thumb, under such a image, there is an option to purchase this file.
Sometimes this option is a simple text like "buy" or a small icon, where you can click on.
If we are talking about the same, I must say, in Pixaria there is mostly the word "Actions" and there below are some actions including purchasing.
I would like to have this option "purchase" or "buy" more "prominent". Because "buy" an image is a "serious task" and often the owner of the site wants to sell images, hence this action should be very clear for a potentional client.
I saw once a Pixaria-site with icons, but cannot find it now.
Sorry for not answer better, I ought to lern English! _________________ Markus - from Switzerland |

This was discussed earlier and would probably suit what you are thinking.
many sites based on Pixaria have added modifications to enhance the shopping 'experience'.

Thank You to Both Markus and Pat,
Markus, I understood you well and I think that you get the idea of my post. This is exactly what I was saying, have the "Purchase" more prominent with the details of the purchase in the forefront instead of the details of the image.
Pat, thanks for your reply, I had seen this post while I was doing my searches and thought that it came very close to what I was looking for. For me, I would rather see the "Purchase" option on the first tab with all the information and price, ready for the user to click "buy"
I am really struggling with this because I really like the look and feel of Pixara over all other software, but for me, it has to be easy for the visitor to buy my photo. Real easy.

Thanks, Bernie,
for your nice words.
And to be honest, I would support your idea.
I do not know, if I am the only one, but sometimes I even do oversee, that there are tabs or I forget it.
For example even in the admin mode, sometimes I simply oversee, that there are tabs.
A potencial buyer is sometimes very experienced in computer, and he/she will not have troubles to find the purchase-options.
But there are sometimes people, who does not have a lot of experience and for such people we should make it as easy as possible.
I do not know, why Jamie gave the *Buy Now - button, above us, a red colour.
But maybe he has thought -even only "underconcious"- in the exactly same direction as you do, Bernie.
If we want to sell something, it should be very obviously for costumers, buyers.
Hence I would vote for the same order, like Bernie proposed ... or as another possibility, at least to give the purchase-tab more weight, for example like Jamie did it with his red-buy-button
Only my two cents _________________ Markus - from Switzerland |

Thanks for your support on my ideas Markus, of course what would count is if others would think that it's a good enough idea to make it a feature.
I just found this site:
http://www.inmagine.com/
does this look like a Pixaria site to any of you?
If so there is a pretty good implementation of a purchase option as seen here on this picture.
http://www.inmagine.com/ins045/ins045115-photo
Althugh I would probably like to see it on the right side of the image myself.

Yes, your example looks cool.
Or I found also this one here very, very good, and also very clear:
http://www.xoodu.com/gallery/stratford-upon-avon-shakespeare-village/image/3/
It is both, clear for buying (ok, without details, but if you have a lot of buy-possibilities, it is difficult to show all), and also enough "weight" on the image with other thumbs at the bottom on the big image.
And good looking icons for "actions" like buying. _________________ Markus - from Switzerland |

Yes,
Definitely getting closer to what I am looking for.
Good find.
Now if only the pricing could be displayed on the first tab (although the big icon helps), I would definitely purchase this web template.

Well Bernie,
if you put all the pricing into that page with the large preview of the image, you will get into spacing trouble. Remember that you are able to create as many products as you like: for example you may have two or three download sizes of the image with the name of the product and a short description. That will take place. For me, I do have mostly four to six print products - different sizes, different print materials and some kind of finishings. If I would place that beside the preview too, it would like a bit unclearly in design and I will lost what you like to have: a clear design for selling photographs.
I wrote some time ago a post, were I had a idea of putting the purchase window into a third tab. We do have now two tabs beside or below the preview, either which orientation the preview has, one is OVERVIEW and second is DOWNLOADS. A third would be fine as PURCHASE and you are able to switch fast between them and the see stills the large preview.
Maybe Jamie has a idea how to do this in next releases. _________________ Adrian Wackernah

Here is an example of something that looks very simple from the customers point of view.
http://www.backprint.com/view_event_photos.asp?PID=bp%1EsA&EVENTID=63336&PWD=
At the moment it looks miles away from the Pixaria default, but , with a vivid imagination that comes from no programming experience, I think that an implementation of a javascript thumbnail viewer like http://highslide.com/ with some mods could create a very user friendly buying experience. If anyone wants to try this and post there results up on the custom theme section I know that I would definitely appreciate it!!!! Maybe Jamie might think this was worth implementing at source!

Thanks to all that have replied.
By the way, I did purchase Pixaria as I thought it had the best feature of what I was lookfing for as far as a stock photo site.
My original comment was more to the effect that to purchase an item, I had to find a link, honestly it took me a while to find it. I would have much prefered some type of a colorful button that I could click either located at the bottom or the side of the image that would bring me to a purchase screen. Just looking for something that stands out.
I did write an email to Jamie about this before my purchase, and although no promises were made, he did say that I would put it on a list or review. That was good enough for me.

I'm working on improvements to the UI for purchases but these won't come until version 3.0 because I don't want to give everyone headaches with constant changes to the front end templates. I appreciate all the feedback on this and I'll try to incorporate as many of these ideas as I can.

This is really good news Jamie!
I really appreciate that you took this suggestion into consideration. I surely can wait until V3 for this feature, in the meantime, I am really happy with the new features newly added and the direction that this software is taking .... great job.
